Dobrovolná výměna LOOK pedálů

Recall akce jsou zcela běžné a patří rozhodně do výbavy seriózních firem, které nabízí na trhu své zboží.

Vzhledem k tomu, že se objevily zkreslující informace o dobrovolné výměně pedálů LOOK, firma Vokolek-Imort, která je zástupcem této značky pro ČR, vydala tuto upřesňující informaci:

Look USA vyhlásil dobrovolný Upgrade program na výměnu os u pedálů Keo vyrobených v letech 2004 a 2005.

Tento program je rozšířen v případě zájmu zákazníků i do České republiky. Program je dobrovolný proto, že pedály nepředstavují nebezpečí pro jezdce a není na nich výrobní ani materiálová chyba.

Pedály s rezervou splňují všechny požadované normy jako např. EN 14781 (EU), 16 CFR Part 1512 (USA). Nové osy nabízené pro Upgrade splňují uvedené normy s ještě větší rezervou.

Důvodem k nabízenému Upgrade pedálů je fakt, že v USA došlo v několika případech k prasknutí osy (16 případů z 80 000 prodaných sad pedálů). Všechny pedály neměly vadu materiálu ani chybné zpracování a byly v provozu cca 3-4 roky. Přesto se Look rozhodl zákazníkům, kteří o výměnu os požádají, tento servis zdarma umožnit.

Tento výměnný program bude v ČR odstartován v říjnu 2008 a týká se pedálů Look Carbon, Sprint a Classic vyrobených ve výše uvedeném období.

LOOK Cycle Initiates Voluntary recall of 1^st Generation KeO Chromoly pedals.

LOOK Cycle USA has instituted a voluntary recall in the United States in order to provide consumers who own 1st generation KeO pedals with an opportunity to upgrade their pedals with axles that were introduced for KeO pedals in 2006. The pedals that are the subject of this voluntary recall have production dates of 2004 and 2005, as indicated on the bottom of the pedal, and include the following models:

· KeO Classic and Sprint

· KeO Carbon Chromoly and Chromoly Ironman (does not include Carbon Ti models)

· KeO HM Chromoly and Chromoly Ironman (does not include HM Ti models)

Consumers in the US have been invited to bring their 2004-2005 KeO pedals to authorized LOOK Cycle dealers to have these axles replaced free of charge. LOOK Cycle expects this voluntary upgrade program will be expanded to other countries, but we do not believe there are any special hazards that require urgent action.

All KeO pedals, including the recalled pedals, comply with all safety standards applicable to bicycle pedals, including but not limited to EN 14781 (European standard adopted by CEN October 2005), AFNOR NR R 30-020 (France national standard, adopted 1998), and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission Requirements for Bicycles, 16 CFR Part 1512 (adopted December 1978). The most rigorous of these standards are the pedal-spindle impact test stated in § 4.12.4 and the pedal-spindle dynamic durability test stated in § 4.12.5 of EN 14781.

All KeO pedals, including the recalled pedals, have passed EN 14781. LOOK’s newer axles, which are in all KeO pedals produced beginning January 2006 and are being offered to consumers for 1st generation pedals as part of this voluntary recall program, exceed the European, French and American standards by an even greater margin.

LOOK has received isolated reports of axle breakage in older KeO pedals, but the rate is extremely low. In the US, for example, there are 80,000 1st generation KeO pedals in circulation, and there have been 16 reported incidents resulting in 7 injuries, only one of which is known to have required hospital treatment, with no permanent loss expected). No incidents have been related to any manufacturing or material defect.

LOOK Cycle International S.A. nevertheless has notified its pedal distributors in all countries of the U.S. upgrade program, and has instructed them to prepare for implementing a similar upgrade program consistent with the laws of their country, and to inform consumers and retailers by means that are most effective in their markets.
